Fake California Earthquake Alert Sends Twitter Into a Tizzy
An earthquake alert sent out by a staffer at Caltech had Southern Californians quaking in fear Wednesday night — but not because the ground was actually moving. The report of a 6.8 magnitude quake in the Pacific Ocean near Santa Barbara sent around 4:51 p.m. PT sent Twitter into a panic, but it was actually referring to one that happened in the same area 92 years ago. Following months of scandal and criticism, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick resigned from the ride-sharing company Tuesday under pressure from investors, the New York Times is reporting. The move comes a week after Kalanick took an undetermined leave of absence amid a growing scandal surrounding the company’s workplace culture, which included numerous allegations of sexual harassment.
