West Virginia TV Meteorologist Accused of Fracturing Colleague’s Skull in Fight

It’s not “Anchorman,” but it’s close, as a West Virginia television news meteorologist has been charged with misdemeanor battery after a physical altercation with a colleague, an anchor on the same station, the Charleston Gazette-Mail reports.

According to the Gazette-Mail, anchor Erica Bivens of Charleston, WV local station WSAZ accuses on-air forecaster Chelsea Ambriz of shoving her to the ground. Bivens says she suffered a ruptured eardrum and skull fracture during the altercation.

A police report obtained by local station FTV Live says that the altercation started at a local bar, after Bivens accused Ambriz of hitting on her husband. Ambriz, according to the report, then “became irate and began to shove” Bivens, causing them both to fall to the ground near the bar.

According to FTV Live, Ambriz has since told friends she is suspended. Ad Week reports that neither woman have been on the air since the incident occurred nearly a week ago.

A representative for the station told TheWrap that it is aware of the matter and is conducting an internal investigation, but that it has no further comment at this time. The local police department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from TheWrap.
