Academy of Motion Pictures Sued for Allegedly Firing Cancer Victim

A former employee has filed a lawsuit against the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences claiming he was fired while receiving treatment for Stage IV cancer, and that his supervisors refused to comply with his doctors’ instructions and requests for him to work from home. The plaintiff, former human resources manager Rodolfo Davila, began working for the Academy in November 2012 and received excellent performance reviews up until May 2015, when a large tumor was discovered on his heart and lungs, according to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Monday. The NRA's Concealed-Carry Dream Takes A Hit In Court

In a surprising event, the NRA actually lost a major legal argument in a federal court, and America’s ‘oldest civil rights organization’ predictably responded by calling the decision by the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals (U.S. v. Robinson) “the most anti-gun ruling from any court of the modern era.” Which only goes to show how rarely the NRA loses a big one in court. But forgetting for a moment the NRA’s attempt to engage in a bit of Trump-like hyperbole about this new threat to all law-abiding gun owners, the decision does put something of a crimp in gun-nut nation’s plan to…

James Corden Slams Trump Travel Ban (Video)

“The Late Late Show” host James Corden marked the show’s return from a week long hiatus with a video criticizing Donald Trump’s executive order prohibiting citizens of several majority-Muslim countries from entering the U.S. In the video, posted to “The Late Late Show” official YouTube account that also served as the opening to tonight’s episode, Corden arrives at Los Angeles International Airport, where he easily checks in, orders food, and eventually boards a plane. The 38-year-old host was born in London, England, which makes him an immigrant to the U.S., not unlike the people affected by Trump’s order. We Are Not Safer

“You are cultured and intelligent, Ivan, and you surely understand that the world is not destroyed by villains and conflagrations, but by hate and malice and all these petty squabbles. I want my children and grandchildren and everyone else’s children and grandchildren to be safe. President Trump’s executive order travel ban does not make us safer. ‘La La Land’ Wins Producers Guild Award, Stays on Top in Oscar Race

The Producers Guild of America has named “La La Land” the best film of 2016 at the Producers Guild Awards, the most reliable of the guild awards when it comes to predicting the Oscar Best Picture winner. There was little doubt before Saturday night’s ceremony that Damien Chazelle’s musical was the frontrunner to win at the Academy Awards. But there’s even less doubt now that the film has won with the guild at the end of a politically-charged ceremony at the Beverly Hilton. Since the Academy and the PGA expanded from five to 10 nominees in 2009, only one film…
