Margarita Alarcon Six years ago I wrote a piece on an atrocity that occurred in our hemisphere on October 6th of 1976. Cubana Airlines flight 455 exploded in midair and fell to the ocean floor taking all 73 of its passengers down with it. 11 Guyanese students were on board, 5 Koreans, 57 Cubans of which 24 were the members of the Cuban National Fencing Team on their way back from the Central American regional Games of that year. As I was writing my tale I was thinking of the passengers on board and how the men responsible for these…

Lena Dunham has made it pretty clear how she feels about Donald Trump, but they say a picture says 1,000 words so she used Halloween to make press home the point. The “Girls” star got creative with her costume by dressing as a “Grabbed P—y,” mocking the GOP nominee’s infamous lewd comments to Billy Bush from the 2005 leaked hot mic video. Dunham kept it PG-13 with her cheeky ensemble, pairing a furry cat costume with a set of creepy hands groping her breasts and crotch, then added the cheeky hashtag: “#imanasshole.” Also Read: Lena Dunham 'Cornered' by Producer to Convince…

The consensus is clear, and it is unrelenting: FBI Director James Comey badly, badly screwed up this time. From Trump-backing alt-right conservatives, to Hillary-backing liberals. From independent experts, to legal analysts. From Members of Congress on the left and Members of Congress leading the Tea Party. From talk shows on the left, to talk show hosts on the right. From a Republican Attorney General, to a Democratic Attorney General, and even to the Libertarian Vice Presidential candidate, there is near unanimity. James Comey had no business writing to Congress, without any real information, regarding a candidate for president, so close…

(Spoiler alert: Please do not read on if you haven’t watched Sunday’s episode of “Insecure”) As if Issa Rae’s “Insecure” hasn’t already given us life, this week’s episode decided to bless us with two special cameos–Jidenna and Ty Dolla Sign. The “Classic Man” appears in all his classic glory as Molly’s League date (a dating app for professionals). The two are out at a club and Jidenna can sense something is a little off with his date. Molly is still stressed out from having her boss ask her to speak with Rasheeda about fitting in with the company’s culture. Which in layman’s terms meant that…

By Clark D. Cunningham, Georgia State University FBI Director James Comey’s Oct. 28 bombshell letter to Congress – which has the potential to affect the presidential election – may be based on illegally obtained emails. In his letter, Comey says the FBI “has learned” of the existence of emails “that may be pertinent” to the closed investigation of Hillary Clinton’s use of a personal email server during her tenure as secretary of state. He writes that although “the FBI cannot yet assess whether or not this material may be significant,” he has directed investigators “to review these emails to determine…

Although Colin Kaepernick continues to draw criticism for refusing to stand during the national anthem, his message that he won’t “show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people” is being heard loud and clear — and watching others embrace that cause has touched him deeply. “It’s the kids, the communities, the support. Something that everybody else saw and was like, ‘You know what? I believe in what that movement is and what that issue he’s trying to fight for is,’” Kaepernick told ESPN’s “Undefeated” Saturday. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback spent the day with kids at…

Ricky Gervais and Christopher Guest both agreed that Guest is funnier than Gevais, Tom Hanks trashed IMDb in front of its founder, and another batch of shiny trophies was handed out at Friday night’s Britannia Awards, one more kudos-fest as awards season revs up. The Britannia Awards are an enterprise from BAFTA-Los Angeles, the Hollywood arm of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. Coming about four months before BAFTA’s big awards, the EE British Academy Film Awards, they are part career-achievement salute, part campaign stop. This year’s honorees were Gervais, Jodie Foster, Samuel L. Jackson, Felicity Jones, Ang…
