Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York, has long been the home of historic tennis matches, the back and forth of fierce competitors. But audiences had a different courtside experience Thursday when Kevin Spacey brought his one-man show “Clarence Darrow” to Center Court — the first play ever performed in the U.S. Open’s biggest venue, for a limited two-night run. Darrow, the pioneering American lawyer who argued key cases in the early 20th-century progressive era, was a master of the service game — service to the working man, to the oppressed and to reason itself despite the assault of well-heeled…

Stockholm Syndrome is the psychological phenomenon of captives beginning to identify with, sympathize with, or fall in love with those who are holding them hostage. Watching the Republican reaction to the shooting of a group of their own on a suburban Virginia baseball field, I couldn’t help but think that it bears a strong whiff of Stockholm Syndrome. For decades now, the gun industry has held the U.S. Congress hostage to its radical agenda. Its weapon is the National Rifle Association which enforces its will through the reams of cash they provide to political campaigns, the direct threats they make…

Late into the day, a huge plume of smoke still wafted across the London skyline and left a…

Tragically, America has been rocked once again by gun violence from coast to coast. From a shooting near UPS center in San Francisco to a shooting near our nation’s Capitol – where it appears our nation’s leaders were targeted. Details are still unfolding, but so far we know that during a congressional baseball practice at least one member of Congress was shot, alongside congressional staffers and police officers. Other members of Congress and their family members were present. The humanity of the response to this shooting has been overwhelming: lawmakers crying on television while giving thanks to the police who…

While Donald Trump likes to dole out criticism on Twitter, he certainly doesn’t like to receive it. And lately, he’s even blocking people for doing it. Here is the (growing) list of noteworthy people who have been #BlockedByTrump on his favorite social media platform. Stephen King The horror novelist and frequent Trump critic is the latest blockee, telling fans Trump had blocked him on Tuesday. Fortunately, King won’t have to miss out: “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling offered to DM Trump tweets directly to him. “Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski President Trump didn’t explicitly block Scarborough and Brzezinski,…

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is publicly testifying today before the Senate Intelligence Committee, adding further drama to the investigation into the connection between Trump’s associates and Russia’s meddling into the 2016 elections. Unfortunately, Sessions is arriving at the Capitol with a dark cloud hanging over his head. In his testimony last week, former FBI Director James Comey raised serious concerns about the propriety of the attorney general’s conduct related to the Russia investigation. The testimony raised serious questions as to whether the nation’s top law enforcement official is undermining the rule of law. To start, Sessions said he recused himself from the…

There was no doubting the brilliance of the Golden State Warriors on Monday night as they took home their second NBA Championship in three years with a solid defeat of the Cleveland Cavaliers. And while top-scorers Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry were heaped with praise on social media after the Game 5 victory, there was one person not wearing a Warriors jersey winning the night: ESPN reporter Doris Burke. The NBA analyst had the lofty responsibility of handling the NBA trophy presentation and post-game interviews on the court following the 129-120 victory by the Warriors, and it won her even…
