Star clients and mourning colleagues stepped out on Monday to remember veteran publicist Paul Bloch, the Rogers & Cowan crisis kingpin who died in May at 78. Initial obits for Bloch, an imposingly tall and happy guy judging by the photos and anecdotes shared at the event, focused namely on his ability to spin or contain catastrophe — like the image derailments of Tom Cruise and Lisa Marie Presley or the legal woes of Nick Nolte and Sly Stallone. Tonight’s service at a packed screening room on the Paramount Pictures lot in Hollywood ignored tabloid fodder and instead offered up…

At a dinner party in Hollywood this weekend, for once the talk was not about Trump. Instead it was about the pervasive anxiety within the entertainment industry over the prevailing rules for conduct. Since Harvey Weinstein and the #MeToo movement last year, executives at all levels have been telling me that they don’t know where the lines are anymore. That they’re afraid to hire women, especially attractive women, for fear of perceived misconduct. That everyone is now subject to sensitivity training – sure, why not – but that there are still plenty of people who have misbehaved and not paid…

“Guardians of the Galaxy” actor Sean Gunn came to the defense of his brother, “Guardians” director James Gunn, in a series of tweets Friday and Saturday. On Friday, Sean Gunn retweeted a profile in which James Gunn talked about his questionable jokes and tweets from earlier in his life, and how he’d grown as a person away from the need to do that, largely thanks to his work with Marvel. And on Saturday, he discussed how James Gunn had changed across his life and career, specifically because of his work within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the “Guardians” movies. “Working…

After a week of criticizing Donald Trump on “The Late Show” for siding with Russian President Vladimir Putin rather than the U.S., Stephen Colbert turned his sights on a different aspect of the Russia election hacking scandal: accused spy Maria Butina. On Friday’s “The Late Show,” Colbert mocked Trump for comments he made about his meeting with Putin in Helsinki, including Trump’s invitation to Putin to the White House for another meeting. “This week could not end soon enough, because all week Donald Trump has been insulting our allies in NATO and cozying up to Russia,” Colbert said. “It’s like that…

Stephen Colbert was so shocked that Donald Trump is trying to invite Vladimir Putin to the White House, he staged an intervention on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” During his opening monologue Thursday, Colbert addressed Trump’s tweet in the wake of his Helsinki meeting with Putin in which Trump doubled down on supporting Russia. The Summit with Russia was a great success, except with the real enemy of the people, the Fake News Media. I look forward to our second meeting so that we can start implementing some of the many things discussed, including stopping terrorism, security for Israel,…
