Production on all of Universal’s live action films including “Jurassic World: Dominion” will go on hiatus starting this weekend as a precautionary measure amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the studio said on Friday night. Along with the “Jurassic World” sequel, Universal also paused filming on the upcoming boxing biopic “Flint Strong,” starring Ice Cube and Ryan Destiny. Production on Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Shang-Chi” has been temporarily suspended out of concerns about the spread of coronavirus. California Gov. Gavin Newsom, in accordance with new guidelines from the state’s Department of Public Health, is asking that all gatherings of more than 250 people be canceled throughout the state in an effort to curtail the spread of the covid-19 illness caused by the coronavirus. This would include almost all sporting events, most concerts, many movie screenings, high volume workplaces, and many restaurants and bars, not to mention film premieres and large scale media events. Concerns about the spread of coronavirus have already disrupted some of the biggest events in entertainment, and the year’s biggest music festivals might be next. Billboard reported Monday that the promoter behind the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals may postpone the 2020 events by as much as six months in order to avoid the current outbreak that so far shows no signs of abating.
