Surprising no one, the latest edition of “SNL” began with a parody of the week’s most talked-about politics moment, the dueling town halls by Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Obviously, the cold open sketch featured an appearance by Jim Carrey as Biden, joined by Alec Baldwin once again playing Trump. The joke: They presented the debates as they presumably were watched by a great many people — clicking back and forth between them. And of course, the sketch did a lot of celebrating on behalf of Trump town hall moderator Savannah Guthrie, who was widely praised for…

BIll Maher used the “New Rules” segment in Friday’s episode of “Real Time” to talk about the thing that mostly dominated the news this week — the grossly hypocritical rush by Republicans to install Amy Coney Barrett on Supreme Court — and specifically, he argued that one of the problems with her appointment is that Catholics are already over-represented on that body. Maher also spent some time arguing that despite claims by Republicans to the contrary, it is absolutely appropriate to discuss and criticize Barrett’s fundamentalist religious views, because “being nuts is relevant.” “Democrats have to stop talking about packing…

It’s an annual ritual of awards season that comes around every fall: The American Film Institute’s AFI Fest arrives, studios bring out their awards movies to showcase them in front of a Hollywood audience, and every big premiere begins at least half an hour late because there’s lots of mingling, talking and speech-making before the movie starts. Almost all of those things happened on Thursday night, as the 2020 AFI Fest kicked off with the opening-night world premiere of Amazon’s “I’m Your Woman,” the Rachel Brosnahan-led twist on ’70s crime movies directed and co-written by Julia Hart. The movie drew…

Jimmy Kimmel was not happy Wednesday night with the latest “brazen” Republican effort to “steal this election” — which involves illegally setting up fake ballot boxes in California that are marked as “official” drop boxes. Even though they are not official by any means. The state of California has ordered the Republicans to stop these illegal efforts, but the Republican party has refused and says it actually will set up more of the fake ballot boxes. “After months of Trump yammering about how the vote is rigged, the vote is rigged, the vote is rigged — the California Republican Party…

Donald Trump has repeated over and over that he’s been cured of his coronavirus infection by stem cell treatments, and that he wants to prove he’s better by kissing everyone who attend his rallies. And Jimmy Kimmel couldn’t help but make fun of that sentiment on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Tuesday night. “Our Pez-brained President was in Johnstown, Pennsylvania tonight. He’s spreading his microbes across the Keystone state,” Kimmel joked as he pivoted his opening monologue toward politics. “Last night he made his bigly return to the rally stage in Sanford, Florida. Trump did about an hour of material in Florida,…
