Dallas Mavericks Have Stopped Playing the National Anthem Before Games

The Dallas Mavericks ceased playing the national anthem before games at the beginning of this season, and don’t plan to resume the practice. According to The Athletic, the NBA team’s owner Mark Cuban confirmed that he made the decision, though he declined requests to discuss what prompted the decision. According to ESPN, Cuban consulted with NBA commissioner Adam Silver prior to the decision. There was no public announcement of the change however; the anthem hasn’t been played before any of the 13 games the Mavericks have played this current season. Mary Wilson, Co-Founder of The Supremes, Dies at 76

Mary Wilson, the celebrated singer, businesswoman and activist who co-founded the 1960s hit machine The Supremes as a 15-year-old Detroit teenager and was the group’s longest serving member, died Monday at her home in Henderson, Nevada. She was 76. Her publicist confirmed the news to CBS on Monday night. The cause of death has not been disclosed. Born in Mississippi in 1944, Wilson moved to Detroit as a child and in elementary school became close friends with future Supreme Florence Ballard. Pedro Gomez, Longtime ESPN Sportscaster, Dies at 58

Pedro Gomez, a reporter for ESPN for nearly 20 years, passed away suddenly on Sunday, the network said. He was 58. No cause of death was given. The Gomez family said in a statement, “Pedro was far more than a media personality. He was a Dad, loving husband, loyal friend, coach and mentor. He was our everything and his kids’ biggest believer.
