Sportscasters Alois “Al” Leiter and John Smoltz will not appear in-studio for MLB Network after both refused to take a coronavirus vaccine, according to a report from the New York Post. The MLB Network didn’t immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment and confirmation. According to the New York Post, MLB Network recently instated a mandate that requires all employees be vaccinated beginning Sept. 1 — but the network agreed to avoid letting Leiter and Smoltz go by reaching a “compromise” where they would stay on-air but appear on their shows remotely. The two commentators are not expected to return…

Ruth Marx, mother of musician Richard Marx and television jingle singer, died Aug. 24. She was 85 years old. Richard Marx told the Chicago Sun Times Aug. 30 that his mother died of lung cancer at her home in California. In a separate Facebook post, the pop singer said, “Rest now, sweet beautiful Mama. What we had between us was the most unique and extraordinary bond I’ve ever known. I can’t begin to thank you enough for everything you did for me, everything you were to me and will always be. My heart is in a million pieces and I…

(This article contains spoilers for the second episode of the final season of “The Walking Dead”) There’s a lot to process through the first two episodes of this climactic season of “The Walking Dead.” While I’m sure everybody’s gonna be talking about the Stephanie situation first after watching the episode, let’s not forget about the ongoing feud between Maggie and Negan over Negan murdering Glenn back in season 7. Last week, Negan left Maggie to be eaten by zombies, but she managed to survive and confront Negan about it this week. Negan defended himself in front of everyone, pointing out…

His wife, Jessica Wallace, who is pregnant with the couple’s fourth child, announced his death on their family’s GoFundMe page Saturday. “Caleb has peacefully passed on,” she wrote. “He will forever live in our hearts and minds.” Wallace battled the virus for weeks in the ICU, according to the San Angelo Standard-Times. He had been “unconscious, ventilated and heavily sedated” since Aug. 8. His wife said that he initially began experiencing symptoms on July 26…

Bill Maher spent the bulk of his “New Rules” segment on Friday’s episode of “Real Time” talking about a serious (ish) issue he’s interested in — in this case, an appeal for some kind of nuanced patriotism — and we’ll get to that in a minute. But before the long final segment, he made a couple of jokes we found somewhat amusing, so we’re going to focus on that. Normally, “New Rules” has several jokes before Maher gets to the main lecture and that was the case on the latest episode. For instance, early on he joked that the premise…

Minor spoilers ahead for “He’s All That.” Rachel Leigh Cook and Matthew Lillard may have played totally different characters in “He’s All That,” but that doesn’t mean they didn’t acknowledge their original “She’s All That” roles. In fact, they both got to give a not-so-subtle nod to some iconic moments from Laney Boggs and Brock Hudson. In Netflix’s remake of the 1999 teen classic, Rachel Leigh Cook is no longer the anti-social outsider. This time, she’s Anna Sawyer, mother of ultra-popular influencer Padgett Sawyer. Oh, how the tables turn. Meanwhile, Matthew Lillard is no longer the obnoxious, thinks-he’s-cool-but-definitely-isn’t guy; he’s…

Lilly Wachowski, one half of the Wachowski sisters who directed the original “Matrix” trilogy, on Wednesday clarified why she’s not involved as a director or writer on the upcoming “Matrix 4,” saying that the idea of returning to something older in her career felt “expressly unappealing.” Lilly Wachowski said that her sister Lana Wachowski had come up with an idea for “The Matrix 4” in the short period of time between their parents dying and couldn’t find the motivation to do it. “There was something about the idea of going backwards and being a part of something that I had…
