‘SNL': Pete Davidson Acknowledges Breakup With Ariana Grande (and Urges You to Vote)

Pete Davidson spoke out in public for the first time about his breakup with Ariana Grande on Saturday’s episode of “SNL,” wrapping his comments inside a plea for viewers to vote in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

Davidson showed up during “Weekend Update” to make fun of several current Democratic and Republican politicians. But he kicked the bit off by joking he’s paid more attention to politics more since “I moved back in with my mom.”

Davidson then mocked vice president Mike Pence’s brother, New York governor Andrew Cuomo, and a few others before admitting he doesn’t have any room to make fun of the way other people look, comparing himself to a badly made muppet.

Just before the bit ended, Davidson turned to the camera and addressed the elephant in the room — without actually referring to Grande by name. “The last thing I will say is some of you are curious about the breakup. But the truth is, it’s nobody’s business, and sometimes things just don’t work out, and that’s OK,” Davidson said. “She’s a wonderful, strong person, and I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world. Now please, go vote on Tuesday.”

But Davidson wasn’t first to talk publicly about the breakup, however. Just 30 minutes before “SNL” aired, Ariana Grande released a new single, “Thank U Next,” which had equally kind thoughts about Davidson, as well as her other ex, Mac Miller, who died in September.

“And for Pete, I’m so thankful, Wish I could say, “Thank you” to Malcolm, ‘Cause he was an angel,” Grande sings in the song. Listen below.
