‘Joker': Joaquin Phoenix Isn’t Clowning Around in Creepy New Image From DC Comics Film (Photo)

Supervillains! They’re just like us! They brush their teeth, put their pants on one leg at a time, and meticulously apply their creepy makeup by hand. Or so it would seem in a new image from Warner Bros.’ upcoming supervillain origin story “Joker.”

Posted by director Todd Phillips, the black and white pic shows “Joker” star Joaquin Phoenix sitting in front of a vanity mirror applying the white face paint Batman’s arch nemesis is known for. Looks like this version of the clown prince of crime definitely won’t have his skin permanently dyed white.

“Finishing touches,” Phillips wrote as the photo’s caption.

Meanwhile, in case any of you out there were still unsure, Phillips says “Joker” is definitely gonna be rated R. “It will be Rated R. I’ve been asked this a lot. Just assumed people knew. Sorry,” Phillps said in response to one follower asking about the film’s MPAA rating. The more you know!

Set in 1981, “Joker” tells a story about how a failed, highly unstable stand up comic breaks bad and turns into the psychotic arch criminal who has terrorized Gotham since “Batman” issue #1 back in 1940. Along with Phoenix, the film also stars Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, Bill Camp, Glenn Fleshler, Shea Whigham, and Brett Cullen and Thomas Wayne (AKA Batman’s dad). Written by Phillips and Scott Silver, it hits theaters Oct. 4.
