Stephen Colbert tackled Donald Trump head-on Monday night, calling out the president for his divisive comments about the NFL over the weekend.
The “Late Show” host said that Trump’s demand that any players who protest the national anthem should be fired “was unnecessary roughness … There should be a flag on that play. And I’m going to say, a Confederate flag.”
While quoting Colin Kaepernick’s mom, Teresa Kaepernick, who’s response to Trump’s tweets was to say she was a “mean son of a b—-,” Colbert called her the “coolest mom in sports.”

Since the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback first took a knee during the national anthem last year, the protest has grown to over 250 players, the late-night host went to say, which now includes the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals following Monday night’s game.

Trump has claimed on Twitter that “the issue of kneeling has nothing to do with race.”
“Wrong,” Colbert responded. “Kneeling during the national anthem has everything to do with race — just like your presidency.”
