Continuing the cheeky marketing that helped propel “Deadpool” into a surprise box office smash last year, star Ryan Reynolds released a short video pitching Fox’s R-rated superhero movie to Oscar voters.
The half-minute clip, released Thursday on the actor’s Twitter page, cataloged some of the movie’s many achievements, including “4 pairs of assless chaps … 117 script pages, 456 ad-libs, 3 good walls and a 4th that’s broken, 42 rejection letters from Fox … and 783 million fans.”
The Marvel hit, which grossed $363 million domestically, has drawn surprising awards attention in recent weeks, including a Producers Guild Award nomination this week.

Direction Tim Miller’s film got a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, a category that has produced 12 best-picture nominees and two winners in the last five years. (Reynolds also received a Best Actor – Musical or Comedy nod, losing to Ryan Gosling of “La La Land.”)
The film was nominated for an ACE Eddie Award, and a Writers Guild Award for Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick in the Best Adapted Screenplay category — a category in which 14 of the 25 nominees in the last five years have gone on to Oscar best-pic nods.
And it won two Critics’ Choice Awards and two MTV Movie Awards and two Teen Choice Awards and two Golden Trailer Awards.
