On Monday’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Trevor Noah took an extended look at the “Cornerstore Caroline” story, and touched on a weird reference to WorldStarHipHop.
“Cornerstore Caroline” is the nickname given to a white woman who accused a nine-year-old black boy of groping her inside a Brooklyn bodega. A bystander videotaped the woman shouting at the boy and his mother and sister outside the shop while insisting she was calling 911 — police say no such 911 call was actually made, weirdly — and the clip quickly went viral. Security footage later proved the groping did not happen, and the woman apologized.

One of the more curious moments during the videotaped encounter comes at the end, when the woman appears to terminate the call, and says “put that on Worldstar.” That refers to the website WorldStarHipHop, which is infamous for posting videos of violent fights, often with someone offscreen shouting “WorldStar!” in anticipation of the video going online.
Near the end of the “Daily Show” segment, Noah showed video from local news of the woman revisiting the bodega to watch the security footage for herself. A large number of people were present inside and outside the store filming the moment, making for a pretty tense situation as the woman reviewed the tape while the crowd confronted her.
After the footage ended, said Noah: “You can put that on Worldstar.”
