Colbert Isn’t as Impressed With Trump as Trump Is With Himself After Al-Baghdadi Raid (Video)

Stephen Colbert might be willing to give credit where credit is due regarding the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, but during his “The Late Show” monologue on Monday Colbert still took a moment to point out how weird Donald Trump’s celebratory press conference was. On Sunday, Trump held a nearly 50-minute press conference in which, among other things, he repeated called the military operation that led to al-Baghdadi’s death “the big one,” “the biggest their is” and so on, and said it was bigger and more important than the assassination of Osama bin Laden. “You know how I…

91-Year-Old Lina Wertmuller Steals the Show at Oscars Governors Awards

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made statements about inclusion, diversity, gender equity and creative risk-taking on Sunday night at the 11th annual Governors Awards, but it also learned a big lesson as it was making those statements. The lesson: Sometimes, it doesn’t matter what else you do, because somebody is going to come along and steal the whole damn show. In this case, that somebody was Lina Wertmüller, the 91-year-old Italian director who was given an Honorary Academy Award for provocative, groundbreaking films that included “The Seduction of Mimi,” “Love and Anarchy,” “Swept Away” and “Seven Beauties,”…

‘SNL': Darrell Hammond Returns as Bill Clinton, Attends a Trump Rally (Video)

“SNL” this week featured a cold open sketch that saw a pair of surprise appearances from “SNL” alums, Fred Armisen and Darrell Hammond. Hammond was the big surprise, appearing on stage as Bill Clinton alongside Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump impersonation. Hammond was of course the previous “SNL” go-to Trump impersonator, until the 2016 presidential campaign, when executive producer Lorne Michaels decided to cast Baldwin instead. In a 2017 Washington Post profile, Hammond said he “started crying” when he found out, but apparently he’s gotten over that heartbreak given his appearance on Saturday. The sketch took the form of a Trump…

‘Jesus Is King’ Film Review: Kanye West Documentary-Promo Is Both Too Short and Too Long

If the press cycle around Kanye West’s 2018 “Wyoming Sessions” marked an extreme if well-earned low point in his ongoing relationship with the public, it also underscored a truth about the notoriously polarizing artist that his fans and critics alike hold onto equally fervently: He means every word he says. This blunt honesty made him an emblematic celebrity for 2019 — the kind whose behavior fiercely repels some, while inspiring others to double down in their support — but everyone believes that it’s sincere. That’s also why “Jesus Is King,” his 35-minute IMAX film released in conjunction with a new…

Congressional Candidate Cori Bush on Campaigning as a Woman of Color, Activist and Survivor

Cori Bush, a Democratic congressional candidate for Missouri’s first district, was in a negative place in her life — struggling to pay bills with her minimum-wage job, putting in 40-50 hour weeks and still worrying when her next meal would come — when she realized she had to do something for her community. “All of those things really affected me. But I started to realize this is not just happening to me. So how can I be selfish and work for myself without thinking about others?” Cori Bush said at TheWrap’s Power Women Summit on Thursday evening. “It was like,…
