‘Balloon,’ ‘The Orphan’ and ‘Sister’ Win Oscar-Qualifying Awards at HollyShorts Film Festival

Jeremy Merrifield’s “Balloon,” Carolina Markowicz’s “The Orphan” and Siqi Song’s “Sister” have won the top awards at the 2019 HollyShorts Film Festival, which handed out its awards on Saturday Night at the Harmony Gold in Hollywood. Those three films won in categories that automatically qualify a short for the Best Animated Short or Best Live-Action Short categories at this year’s Academy Awards. “Balloon” stars Jonah Beres and Paul Scheer in the story of a high schooler who discovers he has super powers. The film, made at the American Film Institute, is also a finalist at the 2019 Student Academy Awards….

‘9 1/2 Weeks’ Screenwriter Patricia Louisianna Knop Dies at 78

Patricia Louisianna Knop, a television and film screenwriter best known for co-writing the 1986 drama “9 1/2 Weeks,” died Aug. 7 from undisclosed causes. She was 78. Knop’s daughter, artist Gillian Lefkowitz, announced the news last week. “RIP to my incredible mother magical thinker, treasure seeker, writer, painter, sculpture, dreamer, builder, creator of so many things, lover of life,” Lefkowtiz wrote on Instagram. “You will be missed and beyond. Bones in Jeffrey Epstein’s Neck Broken, Autopsy Finds (Report)

The autopsy performed on Jeffrey Epstein over the weekend found that several bones in his neck were broken, the Washington Post reported Wednesday. Citing unnamed individuals it says were familiar with the autopsy results, the Post reported that among the broken bones was the hyoid bone, which is near the Adam’s apple in men.
