‘The Late Show’ Celebrates Halloween With ‘It’s the Great Impeachment, Charlie Brown’ (Video)

Stephen Colbert treated “The Late Show” viewers to a nostalgic way of insulting the Trump administration on Thursday, with an animated clip called “It’s the Great Impeachment, Charlie Brown.”

In the clip, which of course parodies the cartoon classic “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” Linus tells Charlie Brown that “soon the Great Pumpkin will rise out of the pumpkin patch for all to see,” only to be told by Charlie Brown that the Great Pumpkin as been impeached.

“What did the great pumpkin do?” asks Linus. “Remember that official phone call we listened in on?” Charlie Brown replies.

Then the scene switches to Charlie and Linus as they hear Trump — actually the famous muted trumpet noise “Peanuts” cartoons always use for when adults are talking, with audio of Trump saying “Ukraine” and “quid pro quo” spliced in.

Linus then wonders who will take the Great Pumpkin’s place in the pumpkin patch. Unfortunately, Charlie Brown explains, his replacement will be “the Great Jar of White Mayo,” which as it turns out is actually just Vice President Mike Pence.

“Look at me mother, I’m president of the pumpkin patch,” Pence-Mayo then says.

The clip also includes an excellent use of the “A CBS Special Event” spinning graphic that ran in front of holiday specials from the 1960s through the mid 1980s. Watch the whole thing below:
